The National Quality Forum (NQF) and The Joint Commission presented the 2015 John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Award for Innovation in Patient Safety and Quality at the national level to Premier, Inc., for its work to improve the quality of care in hospitals and health systems through its QUEST collaborative. The award honors the late John M. Eisenberg, MD, MBA, former administrator of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and a member of the founding board of directors at NQF. Since 2008, QUEST participants have prevented more than 176,000 deaths and reduced healthcare spending by more than $15 billion. NQF recently spoke with Blair Childs, Premier’s senior vice president of public affairs, about this initiative and the Eisenberg award.
